Checklist Items (21)

Gather Tools and Materials

Collect screwdriver, drill, voltage tester, level, mounting screws, and the thermostat kit.

Verify thermostat compatibility

Check the HVAC system type (single stage, multi-stage, heat pump) against the thermostat's specs.

Download installation manual

Save a PDF copy on your phone or print it for reference.

Turn off power

Switch off the HVAC breaker at the main panel to avoid electric shock.

Label Existing Wiring

Identify and label each wire coming from the wall plate before disconnecting.

Use voltage tester

Confirm no voltage on wires before handling.

Take a photo of connections

Capture a clear image for reference during re‑connection.

Apply wire labels

Attach color‑coded labels (e.g., R, W, Y, G, C) to each terminal.

Mount Thermostat Base

Secure the base plate to the wall, ensuring it is level.

Mark drill holes

Use a pencil to outline screw positions through the base plate.

Drill pilot holes

Use a drill bit sized for the wall material (drywall, plaster, or masonry).

Insert anchors if needed

Place wall anchors for additional support in drywall.

Attach base with screws

Tighten screws firmly but avoid over‑tightening, which could crack the wall.

Connect Wiring

Attach labeled wires to the thermostat terminals according to the manual.

Connect power (C) wire

If a C wire is present, attach it to the C terminal for continuous power.

Connect heating (W) wire

Secure the red or white wire to the W terminal.

Connect cooling (Y) wire

Secure the yellow wire to the Y terminal.

Connect fan (G) wire

Secure the green wire to the G terminal if separate fan control is required.

Double‑check connections

Verify each wire matches its label and terminal before powering on.

Configure and Test

Power up, set up Wi‑Fi, and verify operation.

Restore power

Turn the HVAC breaker back on.

Power on thermostat

Follow the on‑screen prompts to boot the device.

Connect to Wi‑Fi

Enter network credentials using the touchscreen or app.

Run calibration wizard

Let the thermostat detect furnace and AC operation cycles.

Test heating and cooling

Set a temperature higher than current room temp to trigger heating, then lower to trigger cooling.

Update firmware

Check for and install any available firmware updates.
